DB - Monday 23rd March 09 - Olden Days.

Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and said, "The Lord has helped us all the way" - and he named it "Stone of Help". - 1 Samuel 7:12

In  days of yore, lights and water do not come to the home by a switch nor a tap. Roads were uneven and almost always flooded when rain. Pails and containers were common items when the rain fell on the roof top. Trams instead of MRT. "Pow Wan Chia" - illegal taxi that ply the main roads. Just to name a few to remind us that we have indeed come a long way.

We may take things for granted most of the time. Today, we do not remember the good deeds that others have done for us. Maybe it is the pace of life and modern discovery that has changed our attitude and habits. Many expect things to happen instantly with no mistake and expectation of good service is a foregone conclusion. Anything less would invite criticism and complaints.

This is the result of disrespect. We must fly the flag of honour to our past leaders and ancestors who have help us to achieve what we have. By acknowledging their efforts will ensure that our own generation and after, would respect and remember the good old days. In this way, we know that our Lord is still at the helm and that He alone will provide our needs. Let's be grateful to Him.

Gratitude is the memory of a glad heart.
