DB - Wednesday 11th February 09 - Path To Humility
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. - James 4:10
These days we are bombarded with more bad news concerning poor performance of companies worldwide. Governments are also dishing out more financial packages to rescue the economy. Thus it makes us wonder if money and wealth is all that important and top the list of all priorities. Sad but it true that money makes the world go round. Credit move it faster, so it seemed.
In Singapore, the government is more concerned about employability of our people. The debate on the "Job Credit" rest in providing support to keep staff and assist companies to stay afloat so that retrenchment can be avoided.
This worldwide financial crisis came eight months ago at the time when everything seemed rosy and flamboyant. Properties were changing hands with million of dollars in profit on the table, acquiring new assets and boasting of expensive trips were the order of the day. This crisis has a humbling effect on all. On the hind side, I am sure, in the quiet, we are thanking God for helping us to have our feet returning back to the ground. Big spending came to a halt and cost saving are now practiced and respected by all. We must set the example for our Lord to be thrifty and discipline in all ways of our lives. Let's join Paya Lebar Methodist Girls' School's motto : Look Up Lift Up!
When we think we're humble - we're not.
