DB - Monday 16th February 09 - The Answers

My dear friends, we are now God's children. but  it is not yet clear what we shall become. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He really is.  - 1 John 3:2

Sometimes understanding the question is more important than hearing the answer. An answer can be as  simple as a 'yes' or a 'no'. A question can only be interesting and brings out deeper consideration when it is well thought out truthfully and realistically. Answers to good question should add value. It is believed that asking question is more difficult than providing answers. Asking good question would naturally set the mind to think and has to be creative to ask a sensible question. As the saying goes, you ask a silly question, you get a silly answer.

On the other hand, to be innocent and asking questions is important, just like a child, to grow and gain knowledge. Even we adults should seek innocently for things that we are not sure of. In our Christian faith, the Holy Spirit from our Lord would guide and assist us in the understanding of His Words. There may be many things that we cannot comprehend now. That's why we need the faith in our Lord. Our daily closer walk with Jesus would continue to build not only a stronger bond but grow into His likeness and in the image of God.

When you know Jesus, you know who you are and where you're going.

DB - Sunday 15th February 09 - Drift

That is why we must hold on all the more firmly to the truths we have heard, so that we will not be carried away. - Hebrews 2:1

Distorting facts and telling a different story seemed to be more interesting when playwriters want to catch more viewership. Sometimes, media too play up sensationally incidents and project the juicy parts to get more readership.

Just like an empty bottle thrown into the sea in the North can eventually find it's way to the South. It can be drifted along aimlessly and the final destination is always unknown. We cannot afford to be an empty bottle. We must chart our route according to God's plan. Seeking God's will and answering to His call, adhering to His Voice would land us to the best place each time.

Be focus on the values and heap treasure that God will be pleased. Do not crave for the things of this world. The latter can only bring to us wrong desire and more importantly, what is in this world are all temporal. Without the shinning armour of Christ, we may not be able to fend off any danger.

The compass of God's Word will keep you from spiritual shipwreck.

DB - Saturday 14th February 09 - Written In Red

God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. - 1 John 4:9

The first bible I had, there were some words in red and the rest were black. On closer examination, the words in red print were words spoken by Jesus. The author of the first bible with Jesus' words in red did so to reflect what Jesus said in Luke 22:20 "This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you".

More than 2000 years ago, God revealed the only true love in this world. God's love existed long before the  invention of Valentine Day. God sent His only begotten Son to die, sacrificing Himself for our lives.

Today on Valentine Day, it is appropriate to renew our love for our God, our Heavenly Father and to our Lord Jesus Christ. Christians should repeat the vows we made when we first accepted Him. For those who are still wondering if Jesus should be your Lord and Master, remember, God wrote His plan to save us by the blood of Jesus.

By accepting and loving our Lord Jesus, He will cleanse us from all our wrongs. Today would be a perfect day to start new with our Lord. Turn our eyes upon Jesus and look fully into His face. All the things of the world will grow strangely dim, in the light and power of Jesus grace.

Nothing speaks more clearly of God's love than the cross of Jesus Christ.

DB - Friday 13th February 09 - Enduring Love

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. - 1 Corinthians 13 ; 7

Tomorrow is Valentine Day and a day set aside to remind us to "love one another" for love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things!

Relationships and marriages recorded higher breakdown in this modern society than the past like balloons flying into a rose plant.

Roses are red and violets are blue,

Among the roses, thorns are true
Life cannot be taken for granted.
We have to be alert and be determined.
To take all steps to ensure we are right
From spirit,  soul and heart
Never allow a hint of doubt
To enter the mind to tout
Imagination, jealousy, hatred and wrong conclusion.
Instead to be steadfast in love and be patient.

Satan is always blowing ill winds at us. We must not allow it's force to carry us towards the danger zone. We must create our own personal safety space to protect us from  the threats and temptations. We can only do this when we are protected by strong walls of faith, hope and love from God.

1 Corinthians 13 is a beautiful Valentine's message not only for people in love but everyone. Take time to read it before planning the romantic and wonderful dinner tomorrow.

God's love is a fabric that never fades, no matter how often it is washed in the water of adversity.

DB - Thursday 12th February 09 - Learning From Lincoln

In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. - Proverbs 3:6

Today is Abraham Lincoln's  birthday and he is remembered for his kindness, integrity and courage. His farewell speech to his family and friends before he took up the United State's Presidency was humbling himself to admit that without God's help he is nothing but with God's help, he cannot fail.

We can learn from Lincoln's undoubting faith in God. His confident hope in the Lord is what kept him moving forward with strength and determination. We too can look into the future with confidence when we trust our Lord with all our hearts and souls. Lean not on our own understanding but instead to acknowledge our Lord as Lord of lords and King of kings.

Trust do not divide but instead will unite our spirit and strength to provide a solid fortress to vend off any threat and danger. Trust allows us to love and accept in faith. Trust  will erase all our doubts and suspicions. Trust will help us to look towards the positive direction and gave us the hope and inspiration we need to overcome any situation. Trust in the Lord and don't despair for He is a Friend so true.

Living without trust in God is like driving in the fog.

DB - Wednesday 11th February 09 - Path To Humility

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. - James 4:10

These days we are bombarded with more bad news concerning poor performance of companies worldwide. Governments are also dishing out more financial packages to rescue the economy. Thus it makes us wonder if money and wealth is all that important and top the list of all priorities. Sad but it true that money makes the world go round. Credit move it faster, so it seemed.

In Singapore, the government is more concerned about employability of our people. The debate on the "Job Credit" rest in providing support to keep staff and assist companies to stay afloat so that retrenchment can be avoided.

This worldwide financial crisis came eight months ago at the time when everything seemed rosy and flamboyant. Properties were changing hands with million of dollars in profit on the table, acquiring new assets and boasting of expensive trips were the order of the day. This crisis has a humbling effect on all. On the hind side, I am sure, in the quiet, we are thanking God for helping us to have our feet returning back to the ground. Big spending came to a halt and cost saving are now practiced and respected by all. We must set the example for our Lord to be thrifty and discipline in all ways of our lives.  Let's join Paya Lebar Methodist Girls' School's motto : Look Up Lift Up!

When we think we're humble - we're not.

DB - Tuesday 10th February 09 - What's For Dinner?

Some time later God tested Abraham; He called to him, "Abraham!" And Abraham answered, "Yes, here I am!' - Genesis 21:1

Friends at times call at our homes and we all enjoy the fellowship of such impromptu gatherings. At times we can be embarrassed if there is no food to serve our guests. Nonetheless, we will never serve them leftovers that we are to discard. Instead, a phone call would save the day for us. Thanks to the many food outlets that have take-aways and home delivery.

Sharing with others what our Lord has blessed us is a token of appreciation for Jesus' Love, Mercy and Gift. We are expected to donate part of our money, time and talents to the poor, especially those poor in spirit. Our Lord seek and continue to call out for more stewards to spread His Words and do His works. Go, tell it to the mountains, over the hills and everywhere that our God loves all and want to provide us the 5Cs - courage, calm, cure, care  and comfort.

No sacrifice we make is too great for the One who sacrificed His all.

DB - Monday 9th February 09 - Making A Statement in worst time

A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance. - Proverbs 15 : 13

We feel ashamed sometimes to see car decals with bold words "Jesus Saves!", "Jesus Is Lord" when the drivers of these vehicles commit inconsiderate driving habits. It is important to proclaim Jesus' name and make known to others that we belong to Him. However, we must appreciate that proclaiming His Name comes with a responsibility, ownership and belonging. We must never use His Name in vain.

In our daily living, we need to be considerate. We know that there will be time when we can be stressed. We need to balance our work and play. Too much of each would land us lopsided towards unhappiness and carelessness. Thus to be holy and cheerful  would ensure that we have the right attitude towards others and capable of handling each situation correctly. When our hearts are right with God, we can find the best solution. It is during  worst time that we are called to stand tall for our Lord. In good times, we know that it is easier to sing and praise Him. When things go wrong, we must also take time to pray and be calm and be thankful. Surely goodness will follow us when we put Jesus' interest first and allow His Spirit to guide and lead us. God promised to be with us, giving us His Power and personally looking after our interest like a good Shepherd do.

Do others see Jesus in us in worst times?

Wishing all  a wonderful and blessed *Chap Goh May!

DB - Sunday 8th February 09 - Breathless

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your Glory be above all the  earth. - Psalm 57 : 5

Having travelled and visited places of interest and attraction, one could not but give  praises to  the Creator of these natural fantastic scenic sights. Even at home, observing the sunrise in the East and sunset in the West would give the sense of awesomeness in God. Yes, at times we are breathless in all that we have in this earth.

In adoring God for His greatness would reinforce in us the responsibility to serve Him in earnest and in truth. If He can create such wonders in this world, He surely can uphold us in His Name and use us mightily for His purpose. No task is too small nor unimportant in His sake. Little by little, the efforts undertaken by us will all contribute to the glory of our Lord. We earnestly must deliver and make a difference in the lives of others by our contribution of words, deeds and thoughts.. Yes, we are called to serve God not by our merits but by His love, in His love and with His love. Be God be the Glory.

All creation is an outstretched finger pointing toward God.

DB - Saturday 7th February 09 - Temporary Delight

Your law is my delight. - Psalm 119 : 174

Happiness is what everyone look for. For some, a carefree attitude is what makes them happy. Free from care would temporary give us a false impression that all is well. Unfortunately, life is never to be like this. A lapsed moment of care when driving would lend us in a serious accident.  A lapse in our choice of words, would invite endless verbal abuse. A lapse in our eating would result in   having unhealthy bodies.  A lapse......the list can go on and on.

In any game if there is no rules and regulations, the efforts will never be enjoyed both by players and spectators. A country cannot afford to have rules and laws that cannot be enforced. A social club or any organisation without any settled procedure and regulations will result in a free for all and total chaos.

We Christians too have to follow God's commandments and have delight in them. God's law established the respect and adoration for us towards Him. When God's laws are closely followed, we shall be free from punishment and never to worry about any wrong doing. Just like keeping within the legal speed limit on the roads, we are sure to be saved and can enjoy the ride in peace and comfort.

Sail on then my brothers and sisters in Christ, keep within God's commandments and we shall  have peace and comfort all the way till we rest at Jesus' feet.

God take delight in us - how can we help but delight in Him?
