DB - Sunday 8th March 09 - The Time Will Come

The time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine. - 2 Timothy 4:3

It was sad to hear the testimony of the captured suicide bombers that they believed that when they die, seven virgins will be waiting for them and that their families will be richly commended. False teachings and wild rumours fanned by radicals are irrationally followed by those who are ill-informed. We have to be careful that even in our midst, we could have from time to time false teachers.

Uncertainty creates confusion and fear. The worst of these two factors is fear.  False Evidence Appearing Real - FEAR!

We should not harbour any 'fear' but instead to stand upright with sound doctrines from the Bible. The writers in the Bible are not only inspired by God but the doctrines and teaching is from Him that is true and factual.

Stand on the Word of God and you won't fall into error.

DB - Saturday 7th March 09 - God's Love And Ours

While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8

Love is the greatest gift that we can offer to one another. In love, we do not count the cost. In love we do not remember the wrongs. In love we forgive and forget. In love we are patient and kind. In love we do not insist our own way. In love we stand united. In love we care and share. In love we are prepared to suffer and take on the task to enlighten others' loads.

Somehow we wonder why in this world then are there so much hatred, affliction, pain and suffering. People are crying out for peace in their land. Women, children and the weak are praying for stability and harmony in their homes. What went wrong?

Thank goodness, there is hope. God's love can change lives. Soon we will celebrate Easter. It is our Lord's dying and resurrection that we can rest our faith and hope. Do not look back; the foot prints are no longer important to us anymore. The foot steps ahead are what matters. Trust in our Lord, pick up His cross and follow Him.

God's love changes prodigal sons into precious saints.

DB - Friday 6th March 09 - You Are Not Forgotten
God is not unjust to forget your work and labour of love which you have showed toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints. - Hebrews 6:10

It is always
important to be aware that God is watching over us. In time of need, He will be there before the next tear drop falls for it is our happiness that matters most of all to Him. Likewise, He too is aware of any falsehood or wrong intention on our part. He recognizes that we need to be reminded of His presence. At times He allows sorrow and failures to alert us that we may have strayed away from His path. We need to be consistently reminded that we needed Him.

Like friends and relatives among us, we sometimes accused them for being ungrateful. There are often times we can be forgotten for the good things we did. However, they do not forget the wrong things at times we committed. To be grateful is to honour our God who remembers no wrongs of our past. Let His love and grace heal our pain and sadness. Look up to Jesus and do not be bothered by the footprints behind. Instead, be sure to be on the right paths ahead of us. Stop! U-turn if we are not sure where we are heading. Turn to the street-maps in the Bible for guidance.

Soon we will celebrate Easter and it is this time of the year that we must remember what our Father in Heaven did for us. He loved the world greatly that He sent His only Son to die for our sins. Jesus rose from the dead and is now sited with God in Heaven. He will come to judge the quick and the dead one day.

God remembers the good we forget.

DB - Thursday 5th March 09 - Idols In The Heart
Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts. - Ezekiel 14:3

We may not realize it but each and every one of us have "idols" in our hearts. When we give lots of attention and divert all our time and effort towards any cause, we have created an idol out of it in our heart. It is not wrong to be undivided in our task or love for someone.

However, our God is a jealous God and if we put anything above His interest, we have sinned as we have created an 'idol' to replace God and diminish our adoration and honor towards our Lord.

Remove this day any "idols" that we unwittingly may have created in our hearts. We can never be half filled or half empty of God's love and grace. Any space that is allowed to enter our hearts must be consciously squeezed out so that no contamination can take place.

Do we feel that God is not answering our prayers? Could it be that we have undesired idols in our hearts?

An idol is anything that takes the place of God.

DB - Wednesday 4th March 09 - An Ocean Of Ink

Yes, may you come to know His love - although it can never be fully known - and so be completely filled with the very nature of God. - Ephesians 3:19

When one is in need, one seeks and looks to someone who can help. At times an appeal on his behalf is needed. The appellant may not be helped because he does not qualify to receive any assistance. In this case, we say that the writer may be willing but his pen runs out of ink.

I am quite sure that Jesus is saddened not being able to help those in needs who do not have the faith and who have rejected Him. In the case of God, He loves the world so much that He promised to answer to all who come through Jesus and He will give them rest. God has the ocean of 'Ink" and He does not need any pen. We may not fully claim to understand God's love but we can be completely filled by His Holy Spirit to have that simple faith to enjoy His faithfulness. In Him, there is no other person that we need to seek. We can go directly to Jesus who is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

God's love cannot be explained - it can only be experienced.

DB - Tuesday 3rd March 09 - What Are We Holding On To?
Run your best in the race of faith, and win eternal life for yourself; for it was to this life that God called you when you firmly professed your faith before many witnesses. - 1 Timothy 6 : 12

Faith is a simple act of trust and believe. Once I was told that 'simple faith' is like when we sit down on a chair. We just sit. Without any doubt that it would hold our weight.

Simple faith in our Lord is what we need. It is for this purpose that God wants us to run the best race of our life. At the end of the race, it would be glorious to hear Jesus saying, "Well done my good and faithful servant, you have ran the race well, fought the good fight and now go into eternal life with Me."

The foundation which we stand on in everything we do must be from our Lord Jesus. No other foundation can be righteous and strong enough to withstand the worldly storm and pressure. Check to see and ensure that we are standing firmly on holy land, the solid rock.  All other grounds are sinking sand.

The trials of earth are small compared with the triumphs of heaven.

DB - Monday 2nd March 09 - Finding Our Calling

I urge you, then - I who am a prisoner because I serve the Lord: live a life that measures up to the standard God set when he called you. Be always humble, gentle, and patient. - Ephesians 4:1-2

Paul wrote from the prison, telling about how he seek God on his knees, asking God to bless His people and give to them power through His Spirit to be strong in their inner selves. In faith, he said, we will have Jesus living in our hearts. He hope that  our roots and foundation are in Christ's love.

This is the calling of God.

We are to live a life that measures up to the standard of God and not any other form or habit. God calls us to be humble. Many a times we allow our pride to decide our ways. We are to be gentle. We often feel frustrated because we are angry and hunger for advantages rather than to offer comfort to others. We are to be patient. Yes, patience is the mother of success. We say that we trust God but our end result is for immediate answers. Be patient.

It's not what you do but who you are that's most important.

DB - Sunday 1st March 09 - The Need For Nourishment

Trust in the Lord and do good; live in the land and be safe. Seek your happiness in the Lord, and He will give you your heart's desire. - Psalm 37 : 3 - 4

Everyday there are more reports of large companies' losses  and we wonder when we shall see the light at the end of the tunnel. News that retrenchment is on the rise and recession stepping in stronger is a worrying concern. Looking at the pictures of  people lining up to seek for employment, brings to mind that some families are under tremendous pressure. For those of us who have been blessed, we should also take stock and prepare to share and care.

It was heartening to hear that places of worship is packed and more are turning to God. This is the time to feed on God's faithfulness. One sure way to be happy is to be contented with what we have. Remove any thoughts and dreams for more luxury and comfort. Instead, trust in the Lord and do good. We must acknowledge that we are blessed to be in a safe place. Until the death of our own Singaporean girl that was killed in Mumbai recently, most of us still do not appreciate what  it really mean to live in a safe and secure land like Singapore.

Be nourished in the blood and body of Jesus and seek our happiness in the Lord. He will give to us our hearts' desire! Praise His Name.

Feed on God's faithfulness to find the strength you need.

DB - Saturday 28th February 2009 - Fever Pitch

You shall love your neighbour as yourself. - Matthew 22:39

There must be for a good reason that this past week we have been focusing on 'loving our neighbour'. Hostility is never in the wish of our Lord. Jesus said that we are to turn our left cheek when we are slapped on the right and when we forgive, we are to do it seven times seven. What it means is that we are to be patient and never take things into our own hands. That does not mean that we should allow injustice to go unheeded or close our eyes on wrongs.

If someone has done you wrong, do not repay him with a wrong. Try to do what everyone considers to be good. Do everything possible on your part to live in peace with everybody. Never take revenge, my friends, but instead let God's anger do it. For the scripture says, " I will take revenge, I will pay back, says the Lord." Instead, as the scripture says : " If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for by doing this you will make him burn with shame." Do not let evil defeat you; instead, conquer evil with good. - Romans 12 : 17 - 20.

God comforts us every time we have trouble, so when others have trouble, we can comfort them with the same comfort God gives us. - 2 Corinthians 1 : 4

We show our love for God when we share His love with others

DB - Friday 27th February 2009 - Quiet Times

Be still, and know that I am God. - Psalm 46:10

Quiet time with the Lord can differ from person to person. Most preferred  quiet time would be in the early hours of the morning when we are fresh and alert. In the wee hours of the night could be more suitable for some. What ever the time and place, the more important factor is to be STILL before the Lord.

'Stillness' can mean that one is motionless and could be dead both physically and spiritually. Be careful when we want to be still before God. We want that moment to be still in so far as not to be disturbed nor be distracted. Come before our Lord in humbleness, honesty and with sincerity. We want to be still and yet be alert to His soft voice. Like aeroplanes that flew into the airport for refuelling. It has to be still while all other parts of the plane is been checked to see that all parts are secured and functioning well.

Allow our Lord to refuel us at each quiet time with His holy spirit and allow  our body to be screened to unsure that every part is functioning according to His will. So that we can bring honour to our God in everything we do in our thoughts, words and deeds.

Quiet times with God store up power for future emergencies.
