DB - Thursday 29th January 2009 - The Aging Process

Do not cast me off in the time of old age; do not forsake me when my strength fails. - Psalm 71 : 9

"What goes up and never comes down?" You are right "AGE". Aging is not only a personal concern but that of each good government. The greying society is the focus in the Third Age. Much efforts have been put into the young and equally of importance is towards the aging society. We are always moved by sad stories of elders not been cared for by their offspring.

During this period of festivities, we must spend time with our elders, especially those of us who are still lucky to have our parents and grandparents whom we can fellowship with. Treasure the moments of their time. Holding their hands and for sure our touch will electrify their weakening nerves and enjoy the togetherness. Let's rejoice in that through them we have our days. It is from their maturity that we can learn many things and prepare ourselves for the ultimate. God is faithful and will not forsake those who seek Him. We can assist our elderly by assuring them that our Lord's blessing in their past is now been enjoyed by generations after.

As the years add up, God's faithfulness keeps multiplying.

DB - Wednesday 28th January 2009 - Murphy's Laws

You shall have no other gods before Me. - Exodus 20 : 3

Murphy's law says "If any thing can go wrong, it will." A better version is "You can't do just one thing, everything has its consequences."

Jesus said that the greatest and most important law is to love our God with all our hearts and to love our neighbours as ourselves. First, we shall have no other gods other than our Father in Heaven. It is not any other religions that we need to be worried about but the material things and undesired habits that unconsciously creep into our hearts that we should be wary about. The love for money could be one. Idolizing the rich and famous could be the other.

Remember that in everything we do, there are consequences. We must keep our minds clear of undesired elements of the world. Do not conform ourselves to the standard of this world but let God transform us inwardly by a complete change of our mind. Then we will be able to know the will of God and what is good and is pleasing to Him and is perfect.

People who follow Christ lead others in the right direction.

DB - Tuesday 27th January 2009 - Prayer Circles

Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled. - Luke 18 : 14

Pride comes before a fall. Each time we miss a step in our life journey, we know that we failed to be watchful in  our thoughts, words and deeds. It is easy to misbehave. We let our guard down and take things for granted. This habit if not controlled, will hamper our witnessing for our Lord and live a life with regrets. One way to safeguard this is to keep in touch daily with Jesus in prayer and praise giving. Humble ourselves and He will double our joy.

In everything, give praise! Even when our chips are down, turn our thoughts to thank the Lord. We can be assured that His Mercy and Grace will envelop us and deliver us out of any worst situation. It is through prayer that we can allow His Spirit to take control of our total mental and physical nature. The end result would be a blessed one for we are humbled and not be troubled. He will strengthen us and help us to focus and be positive. Ignoring the itch and attend to the deep wounds.

The highest form of prayer comes from the depths of a humble heart.

DB - Monday 26th January 2009 - Holy Spirit

When the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. - John 15 : 26

Today is the first day of the Chinese Lunar Year. Wishing one and all a Blessed Year of the OX.

Before this day, we must have spend time in preparation for this celebration. Cleaning the house, buying new clothes, rice, drinks and food. At least we get to clean the ceiling fans and lights once a year! At times, we may even give our walls a whitewash to usher in the new year.

New Year's spirit that comes once a year is always bright and beautiful.  Our Lord's spirit is not only bright and beautiful but is our honest and true helper that  stay with us everyday of our lives. He is more important than each new year's celebration. Remember to keep our body holy as it is the temple for His Holy Spirit. Pray that throughout this New Lunar Year, we shall daily acknowledge the presence of His Spirit to be bright and beautiful.  Yes, we shall seek God's forgiveness and each time He will not only cleanse us but will forgive and forget.

The Spirit convicts so that Christ might cleanse.

DB - Sunday 25th January 2009 - Benediction Blessing

The Lord bless you and keep you. - Numbers 6 : 24

My motto that I wrote in the late 70s has been the driving force and motivator.  "God please give me comfort not for me to feel comfortable but to  be  a  comforter". Ever  since  then, I was able to embark on many voluntary services, contributing my time, talent and resources.

Seeking God's Blessings is a must but how we manage, share and distribute His love is the essence of the whole matter. We know that God provides for the sparrows and we are definitely more precious than these birds. God will bless us for sure. However, we must also allow Him to keep us and stay close to us.

It is our failure when God is not with us. We may not realised it. He leaves us because we force Him to! Remember that God wants to bless us continuously. He is the One that first seek us out. We must not forsake nor ignore His love. He want to use us as His instruments in this world. We can only be His useful tools when we walk in righteous and keep our body in good and holy conditions. God is Holy, so must we.

God gives blessing to us so we can be a blessing to others.

DB - Saturday 24th January 2009 - Small is Beautiful

Who has despised the day of small things? - Zechariah 4 : 10

Little drops of water make a mighty ocean. Without these drops from the sky - we will not have water at all. Yes, we must not overlook things that are small or that appeared not to be of any significance. Little gesture of kindness are equally important. When we communicate with others, it is the way we smile at times that can win hearts and trusts. It is in sincerity that can build stronger friendship and diffuse any prejudices.

We may not realised it when we extend politely  to  others especially to those who are not culturally and religiously of the same kind. It is wonderful that in Singapore, multi-racialism is the comer stone that build and hold our society together. There is no tension between different races and the peace and harmony we enjoy is due to each and every individual's contribution.

Today, let's rejoice in the Name of our Lord for His blessing on little things. Do not forget that the birds and the bees are all there for our pleasure and treasure. We have many reasons to smile if we are sensitive to the little things around us. Nothing tiny will go unnoticed if we do it in the Name of our Lord.

Little is much when God is in it.

DB - Friday 23rd January 2009 - Supersize It

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.
- Isaiah 6 : 1
We are assured that at the end of our time, we shall all be in heaven and enjoy the company of all those who have gone before us. Our Lord will be there to receive us and no better way than to admire His Majesty and Grandeur. In Heaven, there shall be no pain or suffering, no cries nor tears.
However, I believe that we can  experience 'heaven'  here on earth right now. When we are able to bear the pain and wipe away any tears in our daily living, we are in heaven!  Having  Jesus as our Master and Lord, we can experience the peace and joy of Heaven. The supersized assurance from our Lord will be felt when we can seek a closer relationship with Him. Expect the unexpected and never say die attitude will help us to get up when knocked down. With  our Lord's strength, we can overcome all odds and to stay righteous with peace and joy in our hearts.
Knowing about God is fascinating. Knowing God personally is life-changing.

DB - Thursday 22nd January 2009 - The God of Victory

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. - Romans 12 : 21
During this period of financial uncertainty, we must not be overly concerned and ever ready to point a finger or to complain. Hard times are often best opportunity for self-reflection and taking stock of our own affairs. The reflection should identify any misjudgement on our part and be  better  prepared to leap forward. We must not allow set-back no matter how serious to destroy our hope and desire to move on.
We are alone to face any situation that is beyond our control. God is with us. He has sent His Beloved Son to die for us in order that we can live and have life abundantly. What we need to do when faced with difficult decision making is to spend time in prayer and allow the Lord to instil in us the calm and peace so that we can manage with His strength to avoid taking the wrong step. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide and instruct us. There is hope at the end of each tunnel when we have faith in Him
God will give us the victory when we join Him in the fight.

DB - Wednesday 21st January 2009 - The Perfect Sentence

Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? - Exodus 15 : 11

Students know that to score points when they are writing essays or learning a language, the sentences they produce must be perfect both in grammar and construction. In conversation too, we should ensure that our sentences are perfect, honourable and truthful.

At times, we may be too obsessed in grammar and usage of correct words and miss the opportunity to communicate effectively.  Perfection can lead to satisfaction to the ears. But words spoken that are meaningful and said with the right attitude would render us on high pedestal with our Lord. He is the perfect one. He alone is glorious in holiness, fearful in praises and doing wonders. Having faith in Jesus  would give us the strength and hope to achieve our goals. There is no other god that can claim he is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through His beloved Son.

Looking for perfections? Look to Jesus

DB - Tuesday 20th January 2009 - Protocol

Let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. - James 1:6

Having been involved in various committees and services, I realised that there are protocols to follow. Each system helps to prevent misunderstanding and put in place established procedures. Human have the tendency of wanting their own way or creating space for their own comfort. Thus without proper protocol, there would surely be problems.

Social Clubs do have their share of disgrace and disagreement among their members. To me, all these boiled down to the fact that there were selfishness,  mistrust and ill-informed that  created  discontentment  and when not controlled, turn to huge waves of divide.

Good governance and integrity would help to ensure that everyone involved would be rowing the boat in the same direction. Any discord should be nipped at the bud and not to allow the problem to be fully bloom into discord.  Have the faith, hope and love of Jesus.

Exchange the dissatisfaction of doubt for the fulfilment of faith in God.
