DB - Thursday 9th April 09 - The Honor Of Your Friendship
do not call you servants any longer, because a servant does not know what his master is doing. Instead, I call you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. - John 15:15

Jesus, our Lord and Savoir, offer to us the meaning of calling each other 'friend'. His
interpretation helps us to appreciate and adopt the right attitude towards one another. We have to accept that each comes from different culture and background. We are not to impose any perception on others. Forbearing and uplifting each other would pave the way for better understanding and relationship.

Jesus in verses 12-13 said: "My commandment is this: love one another, just as I love you. The greatest love a person can have for his friends is to give his life for them."

Today, the eve of Good Friday, the message to love one another is most appropriate. There are plenty of hypocrisy, pretence, hate, jealousy and deceit. Should any of these hanging around our neck, let us unlock and crucify them on the cross tonight so that our Lord can remove them from us. He came to die to set us free. His commandment is to love one another.

Love is more than a sentiment, it's putting another's needs ahead of your own.

DB - Wednesday 8th April 09 - The Other Goat

And Christ himself is the means by which our sins are forgiven, and not our sins only, but also the sins of everyone. - 1 John 2:2

We can empathise with people whom have been made scapegoats of certain situations. They take the place of blame and sometimes have to suffer in silence. In most instances, these people are connected to the guilt by being part of the company. We have to be discerning to whom we associate with. It is never easy but if we allow our Lord to lead us, we will be assured of walking along the right paths and in the company of His people.

At Easter, we are reminded that our Lord Jesus Christ took upon Himself the blame not only of our sins but also the sins of everyone.

We must be humbled to acknowledge that Jesus died so that we can be reconciled with God. He took our sins and set us free.  He offered to those who follow Him, eternal life and salvation. There is nothing more important than to acknowledge God's unconditional love for us.

When Jesus is our Lord and Master, we can enjoy His peace and wisdom. A closer walk each day with Him would render unto us the joy and guilt free passion of life. This would eventually lead us wanting to touch others with the same sentiments that our Lord has touches us.

Jesus takes our sin and gives us His salvation.

DB - Tuesday 7th April 09 - Who's On My Guest List?

When you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed. - Luke 14: 13-14

It is natural that everyone wants to support the winning side. True sportsman does not believe he can win all the time. Nonetheless, support that comes after a failure is more precious. In real life, it is not easy to accept failure. Able to manage and to pick up the pieces to move ahead needs lots of courage and determination. Believe me, for one, I know what it is like after losing two general elections!

We must try our best to reach out not only to people whom we know that support us. To win the hearts for God begins with us. God has called us to be hosts to the unbelievers among us. As we reach out to serve the poor and the needy, we are holding feasts for our Lord.

Be a Volunteer today and see how our Lord can bless us in the work we do. On each third Friday of the month, a few of us gathered at Sunlove Home for the mentally disadvantaged, to administer to these 200 residents with songs, dance, food, sharing of the Word and Praying. It has been six years since, the result is the residents are happy and the team members too have been richly blessed.

Opening our hearts and homes blesses both us and others.

DB - Monday 6th April 09 - Nothing Left But God

Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God's. - 2 Corinthians 20:15

In time of loneliness and troubled mind, we tend to seek for an easy escape route. Failing to find one, we may turn to bad habit to occupy our attention and hope to replace our fear and pain. Soon the reality of life will return to haunt us. It is better to face the music with rational thinking and seeking assistance from the right places.

It is comforting to know that God is always in control. No matter what challenge we are facing, our Commander, our Lord Jesus is at the helm. Let us take a step back and allow our Lord to face the music. He will allow our foe to believe that we have been defeated. We are to stay humble, patient and wait upon the Lord. He will open other opportunity for us to move forward with greater rewards. All battles are His. Not ours. Praise His Name.

When all you have is God, you have all you need.

DB - Sunday 5th April 09 - The Measure of Mercy

You were not redeemed with corruptible things, .......... but with the precious blood of Christ. - 1 Peter 1: 18-19

In 5 days time, we would be confronted with the day our Lord was crucified. In 7 days, we would celebrate His resurrection. It would be good for us to do something as of today to remind us daily of God's love and mercy for us. I would like to recommend that we fast. It can be giving up a meal a day or sacrifice our favourite food such as meat, carbohydrates or seafood at every meal. This exercise could remind at least 3 times a day through Easter and to thank God for His sacrifice of His only begotten Son for our lives.

The precious blood of Jesus is the only way that God can reconcile man back to Him. We have sins and it is Jesus' blood that washes us clean. As we approach Easter 2009, let us make this Easter a special one. Seek the Lord and listen to His calling. Humbly reflecting on His Mercy for us in the past, weighing and realizing the blessings we have.

God broke into human history to offer us the eternal gift of salvation.

DB - Saturday 4th April 09 - Humility And Greatness
Whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. - Matthew 20: 26

We know that a good boss is one who leads by example. I remembered hearing the telephone ringing but the 40 staff seated in front of me did not bother to pick it up. I did and transferred the call to a staff seated right in front of me. When I identified myself and said that the call was for her. Soon after, words got around and the situation improved.

It is a much welcome sight when we witness acts of courteously and kindness. I read with amusement the article of a student in SMU organising the funeral for 'Singa' the mascot for Singapore Courtesy Campaign. The event was to be a shocker to emphasize the important of courtesy which the students felt that it is dead.

We as children of God should always serve with humility and sincerity. Nothing is more important than to know that our Lord is smiling when we do.

We can do great things, for the Lord if we are willing to do little things for others.

DB - Friday 3rd April 09 - The Journey Home

For Abraham was waiting for the city which God has designed and built, the city with permanent foundations. - Hebrews 11: 10     The path in which we are in right now could be a smooth and easy ride. For this, we acknowledge our gratitude to our loving God for His providence. On the other hand, should our ride be bumpy and difficult, we should also thank God for the endurance and testing of our faith. With strong faith in God, we know that nothing is impossible for Him. It is important that we need to be patient and continue to be humble and wait upon His Grace.

Accepting that this world is not our home but we are just passing through would transform our minds from paying too much attention to worldly pursuits.  The home we all should look forward to is the place of paradise with our Lord. It is built and designed with permanent foundations which is forever and ever; to eternity.

We may walk a desert pathway, but the end of the journey is the Garden of God.

DB - Thursday 2nd April 09 - His Part; Our Part

Get ready now, you and all the people of Israel, and cross the River Jordan into the land that I am giving them.......... I will always be with you; I will never abandon you. - Joshua 1: 2, 5

Learning from the experience of going to unfamiliar land or to an unknown exploration, we know that we can find comfort when we have a good leader. However we have to play our part to follow instructions and take self discipline and safety procedures to be secure and safe.

In this life journey, we can find comfort that Jesus is our guide. For into the future can be unknown and unfamiliar. Equally important is to follow His instructions and self obedience to ensure safety and to avoid failures and disasters. It is wonderful to know that our God call us to untenured tasks and promised never to abandon us. Let's take the bold step in the Name of Jesus and march into the unknown with confidence as God will be with us.

Where God guides, God provides!

DB - Wednesday 1st April 09 - Servant - Friendship

We were people among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children. - Thessalonians 2: 7

Suffering is a form of experience that God want us to go through. From it, we can experience the grace of God. Troubles produce endurance. Endurance brings God's approval that creates hope. In return, we can strengthen our faith eventually.

Every mother cares for her child. Do we know how much love and time did our mother spent to look after us? Do we want to believe that we were all healthy throughout, chubby and well behaved? Do we not know that we have caused our mother to panic and stressed when we were ill? Do we not know that our bad behavior brings to our parents to suffer silently?

Today is the Fool's Day and it could be the right moment to ask ourselves if we have treated others like 'fools'.  Our parents, elders, brothers, sisters, relatives, colleagues, friends, neighbours, and partners - did we cause them some kind of sufferings?

One measure of our likeness to Christ is our sensitivity to the suffering of others.

DB - Tuesday 31st March 09 - Does God Care?
Jesus began to be troubled and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death." - Mark 14: 33 -34

The power of prayer can be experienced when we submit our all to God. Our body is the temple for the Holy Spirit. Whatever we do, we should not compromise but to keep it holy. God can only speak to us if His temple is kept in honour and uprightness. Many of us can testify how our prayers worked and transformed our lives. Faith that has built up over the years would grant to us this wonderful relationship we have with our Father in Heaven.

The important fact is that we know God cares. His love and well being, reach out to each and everyone one of us. In His sight, we are all sinners and He calls us to be His own. He sent His only Son to die for our sins and now Jesus is the only bridge that restores our relationship with God.

Once we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, we can rest on His promises that He would give us His water so that we do not thirst any more. It is heartening to know that Jesus is deeply troubled and deeply distressed when one of His sheep is lost and wondered away from His care. It is also timely to be reminded not to stray away from the path of righteousness.

When we know that God's hand is in everything, we can leave everything in God's hand.
